6 Binge-Worthy Shows To Watch Over Summer Break
With summer coming up, you might find yourself bored at home with nothing to do and maybe you’ve even run out of shows to watch. A great thing to do with your time is to watch a binge-worthy show! Below I’ve listed some amazing shows that will be sure to get you hooked.
Sweetbitter
This show is amazing and you can even finish it in less than four hours! These episodes are only about thirty minutes long, making it insanely addictive. This Showtime series is based on a New York Times bestseller and follows a simple story about a girl who spontaneously moves to New York. This show sounds like it doesn’t have much to it but its quite exhilarating to watch the complex relationships she forms while starting a new job. I definitely recommend this show if you’re a recent grad moving to a new city, it’s very relatable!
Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes
This Docu-Series follows the story of the famous serial killer, Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy took the lives of countless young innocent women back in the 1970s and this show goes into detail on how he committed these heinous crimes. This show tries to explain Bundy’s action beginning from when he was a young child all the way until his execution to help viewers truly understand this serial killer. It is not only captivating to see the interviews of the people that encountered him but the reason that makes this show so special is that it centers around interviews that contained Bundy himself, partially confessing to his crimes. This show is incredibly addictive!
Stranger Things
This is probably one of my all-time favorite shows! This show is set in the 1980s and follows the simple lives of five middle school boys until one of them goes missing. The show revolves around the remaining four trying to figure out how their friend went missing, which could relate to the strange activity going in their town. This show will always keep you on the edge of your seat because it takes so many twists and turns, which is why it is such a binge-worthy show.
Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a series of best-selling novels adapted into a show, which is why I think this show is so incredible. I’ve always noticed that the best films and TV shows are based on novels because they always have amazing, well thought out story lines.
This show is set in the middle ages and follows the story of multiple kingdoms all fighting for one throne. The character development is nothing short of outstanding, characters you hated the most turn into characters you love the most. This is due to the quality of the dialogue and just how much effort goes into creating this show. Apparently, HBO spends about one million dollars to have every episode made due to the many special effects they use, as well as the costs of shooting in some of the most beautiful parts of Europe.
Almost every episode leaves you with a cliff hanger, making this show incredibly addictive.
Mad Men
This show follows an advertising agency set in the 1960s-1970s and revolves around the creative director, Don Draper. Throughout the show, he struggles with being a family man and having the perfect typical American family, all while dealing with his own insecurities. This series goes on to show how each client brings its own problems to the firm that develop into challenges that each character must face. Each situation in business directly affects the personal lives of each character, combined with the superficial world of advertising in the 1960s. This show also does an amazing job with character development, making you feel like you’re a part of the firm. Mad Men is a glimpse into a different world and shows how much the world has changed socially today.
The Marvelous Mrs. Mazel
This Emmy winning show is ridiculously good and not very well known because it is only available on Amazon Prime. Get ready to start your free trial because this show is amazing. This show is set in the 1950s and exhibits the life of a recently single mother, Midge, who is an aspiring comedian.
The show begins with Midge supporting her husband who is a less than mediocre comedian that performs at dingy bars for free. A after one of his performances, he decides to leave her despite the current controversy on divorce and having children together. In a rage, Midge drunkenly goes back to the bar where her husband performs and blows the audience away with a hilariously spontaneous performance. It is then clear that she has a real talent for stand up comedy and is immediately asked to be managed. Midge’s character is a triumphant and hilarious despite the oppression against women at the time and this is a great feel-good show that supports women empowerment.
Summer break is about taking a well deserved rest from work (especially your school work) so don’t feel guilty about getting your binge on and trying some of these shows!
